Generate QR Codes for Links, Menus, and Payments
Practical QR uses that work in print and on phones—URLs, UPI, Wi-Fi, and event check-in—plus size, contrast, and a free generator.
A QR code is a URL you can print, tape to a wall, or drop into a slide. Phones open the camera, the camera opens the link, and the person does not have to type a long address. That is the whole product. Everything else—menus, UPI payments, Wi-Fi join, event check-in—is the same idea with a different destination.

Put a stable URL in the code
Encode a short, stable address. If you print 2,000 flyers, you cannot change the pixels later. Point the code at a URL you control (your domain, a link shortener you own, a UPI ID that will still exist). If the campaign landing page might move, put a redirect behind the code instead of encoding today’s long query string.
Do not encode a URL that only works on your office Wi-Fi. Do not encode a Google Docs link with “anyone with the link” if the document contains a roster. Do not encode a one-time magic link; the first stranger to scan it spends it.
For Indian payments, a UPI intent URL or a payee QR from your app is the usual pattern. Test with more than one app (GPay, PhonePe, a bank app) before you print a board for a counter. For Wi-Fi, the common WIFI: payload lets a phone join without typing the password—only use that on a guest network you are willing to publish in the room.
Everyday uses that are worth the ink
Restaurant or stall menus: one code to a PDF or a page you can update when the dal price changes. Print the code large. Put a short human URL underneath in case the camera fails.
Event check-in and feedback: a code on a badge or a standee that opens a form. Keep the form short. A QR that lands on a 40-field survey will be ignored.
Packaging and manuals: a code on a device that opens the latest PDF instead of a booklet that is already wrong. Host the PDF somewhere you can replace.
Classroom and office posters: a code to a timetable, a Wi-Fi guest page, or a tool on toolpin.online you actually want people to use. A flyer that goes to /tools/qr-code-generator is a reasonable demo; a flyer that goes to your real form is the production version.
Business cards: one code to a single profile page beats four tiny icons nobody types. Keep the card’s text readable; the code is a backup, not the only identity.
Size, contrast, and error correction
Print bigger than you think. A code that is 2 cm on a glossy flyer will fail in bad light. 3–4 cm is a safer minimum for a handheld scan; posters can go much larger. Quiet space around the code matters. Do not crop it into a busy photograph without a solid margin.
Dark modules on a light background. Inverted codes (light on dark) fail on some cameras. Do not put the code over a patterned tablecloth in the design file. Do not cover the center with a huge logo unless you know your error-correction level can survive the hole and you have tested it.
Error correction lets a code survive scuffs and a small logo. Higher correction makes a denser pattern, which needs more print size. For a clean URL, a medium level is enough. For a damaged warehouse label, go higher and print larger.
Test on an older Android and an iPhone, at an angle, in the lighting of the real room. A code that works on your desk monitor can fail on a sunlit window sticker.
What not to put in a QR
Secrets you cannot rotate. A Wi-Fi admin password, a private meeting link that never expires, an API key. Assume a photo of the poster will land on the internet.
Huge payloads. QR can hold a lot of text, but dense codes scan poorly. Prefer a short URL that returns the long content.
Untrusted redirects. If you use a public shortener you do not control, the destination can change. Host the hop yourself.
